Rocky Lightweight (RLW) Commercial Military Boot – Coyote Brown
When speed is your priority and every ounce counts, the Rocky RLW (Style RKC042) is your solution. Standing for "Rocky Lightweight," this boot is engineered to bridge the gap between a rugged combat boot and an athletic tactical trainer. Weighing in at just 18 ounces (per boot), the RLW allows you to stay light on your feet during long shifts or competitive rucks without sacrificing the durability needed for field operations.
While it is Trade Friendly (TAA Compliant) and GSA-approved, the RLW is fully authorized for wear with the OCP uniform under DA PAM 670-1. It features a water-resistant Cattlehide leather and CORDURA® nylon upper that dries rapidly, paired with an aggressive multi-directional rubber outsole for superior grip. Inside, the Rocky Air-Port™ footbed circulates air with every step, keeping your feet cool and comfortable from formation to dismissal.
FEATURES:
-
Ultra-Lightweight Build: Weighing approximately 18 ounces per boot, the RLW is designed to reduce fatigue and increase agility, making it ideal for high-activity duties.
-
Uniform Compliant: Fully meets the standards of DA PAM 670-1 (dated 31 MAR 2014) for wear with the Army and Air Force OCP uniforms.
-
Aggressive Traction: Features a multi-directional rubber outsole with reinforced toe and heel tread locks (stitched for durability) to grip slippery or uneven terrain competently.
-
Fast-Drying Upper: Constructed with a combination of Coyote Brown leather and water-resistant CORDURA® nylon that sheds water and dries quickly.
-
Rocky Air-Port™ Cushioning: A removable polyurethane insole that retains its shape over time and actively circulates air around the foot as you walk.
-
Speed Lacing System: Equipped with NATO hooks and speed lace eyelets for rapid on/off capability; the system is designed to prevent lace fraying.
- Trade Friendly & GSA Approved: Manufactured in a TAA-designated country, making it eligible for GSA schedule purchases (though not Berry Compliant).

Sizing & Fit Guide
-
Fit Profile: Athletic Fit.
The RLW fits more like a sneaker than the wider, boxier S2V. - Sizing Advice: Fits true to size.
- Comparison: If you are used to the Rocky S2V, you may find the RLW slightly more snug in the toe box due to its athletic profile.
- Break-in Period: Minimal. The lightweight materials and padded collar allow for near-instant comfort right out of the box.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Is this boot Berry Compliant?
No. The RKC042 is Trade Friendly (TAA Compliant). This means it is made in a country with a trade agreement with the US (often the Dominican Republic), but it is not "Made in the USA." It is GSA approved, but if your command strictly requires Berry Compliance (100% US materials/labor), you should choose the Rocky S2V (RKC050).
-
Is it AR 670-1 Compliant?
Yes. Even though it is not Berry Compliant, it meets all the visual and material requirements of DA PAM 670-1 and is authorized for wear by soldiers purchasing their own boots.
-
Are the soles stitched?
Yes. The toe and heel tread locks are reinforced with stitching to prevent sole separation, a common failure point in other lightweight boots.
-
What is the difference between the RLW and the S2V?
-
Weight: The RLW is significantly lighter (18 oz vs ~32 oz).
-
Protection: The S2V offers more heavy-duty ankle support (Roll-Stop) and flash protection.
-
Sole: The RLW has a rubber midsole/outsole combo for agility; the S2V has a high-walled Vibram sole for stability.
- Use Case: Choose RLW for garrison, PT, and light field use. Choose S2V for heavy rucking and combat deployments.
-
Weight: The RLW is significantly lighter (18 oz vs ~32 oz).
