When you are on the fire line, your gear is your lifeline. The Rocky Code Red: Wildlands 77 is purpose-built to meet the grueling demands of wildland firefighting. Fully NFPA 1977 certified, every component of this boot, from the fire-resistant full-grain flesh-out leather to the specialized Nomex® stitching, is engineered to withstand extreme thermal exposure and rugged alpine terrain.

Unlike standard tactical boots, the Wildlands 77 features a high-durability sidewall stitch construction. This mechanical bond prevents the outsole from delaminating when exposed to high radiant heat. Underfoot, the Vibram® Fire and Ice Jungle Outsole provides a unique tactical advantage: it remains flexible and tacky in freezing temperatures while maintaining its structural integrity and slip resistance on scorching hot ground.

FEATURES:

  • NFPA 1977 Certified: Professionally tested and certified to meet the National Fire Protection Association standards for Wildland Firefighting footwear.

  • Fire-Resistant Components: Constructed with fire-resistant (FR) leather, FR laces, and Nomex® heat-resistant stitching to ensure the boot remains intact under extreme thermal stress.

  • Vibram® Fire and Ice Outsole: A specialized rubber compound designed to perform at both ends of the temperature spectrum. It won't melt on hot ash and won't harden on frozen mountain ridges.

  • Sidewall Stitch Construction: The outsole is stitched directly to the upper, providing an extra layer of defense against sole separation—a critical failure point for glued boots in high-heat environments.

  • Speed Lace Hook System: Designed for rapid donning and doffing, the hardware is built to withstand heavy tension and high heat without warping.

  • Rocky® Air-Port™ Footbed: A high-performance polyurethane insole that provides long-term cushioning and air circulation to reduce foot fatigue during 24-hour shifts.

  • Unisex Sizing: Engineered to fit both men and women on the fire line (refer to the sizing guide below).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  • Is this boot "Berry Compliant"?

No. The RKD0117 is an imported boot. While it meets all NFPA 1977 safety standards and is widely authorized for use by the US Forest Service (USFS) and state firefighting agencies, it is not "Made in the USA."

  • What is "Flesh-Out" leather?

Flesh-out leather (rough-side out) is the preferred material for wildland boots because it is highly breathable and does not show deep gouges or scratches from rocks and brush like smooth leather does. It also requires less maintenance on the line.

  • Can I use these for structural firefighting?

These are NFPA 1977 (Wildland) certified, not NFPA 1971 (Structural). They are designed for forest, brush, and grass fires, not for entering burning buildings (Interior Structural Firefighting).

  • Does the Vibram Fire & Ice sole really work in the snow?

Yes. Traditional rubber soles get "hockey-puck hard" in the cold, causing you to slip. The Fire & Ice compound is formulated to stay soft and grippy even in sub-zero temperatures, which is vital for firefighters working late-season fires or mop-up operations in cold climates.
